  1. Rolled Sugar Cookies (Aunt Lana's Christmas cookies)

    2 cups all-purpose flour
    1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    6 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/3 cup shortening (I use more butter or margarine instead of the shortening)
    3/4 cup sugar
    1 egg
    1 tablespoon milk
    1 teaspoon vanilla

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Stir together flour, baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Beat butter and shortening for 30 seconds, add sugar and beat until fluffy. Add egg, milk, and vanilla, beat well. Add dry ingredients to beaten mixture, beating until well combined. Cover and chill at least 3 hours - I like to let it set over night in the refrigerator. Working with small portions of the dough at a time, on a lightly floured surface, roll to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into desired shape. Place on cookie sheet. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 8 minutes or until it is done. Makes 36 - 48 cookies.

Ice the cookies with a mixture of butter, vanilla, powdered sugar, and milk.

  4. Great-Gramma Cyr's Chocolate Doughnut Recipe

2 eggs, 1 cup sugar (Cream together)
Add 1 1/2 Tablespoon butter (or oleo) and 3 squares unsweetened chocolate, after they are melted
(add) 1 cup sour milk and add 1 teaspoon (baking) soda to it.
Then add to mixture - 1 teaspoon vanilla, 3 cups flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Just add 2 cups of flour first to mix - then add 1 cup
Take about 1/3 dough onto floured board and roll about 1/4 inch thick and cut with doughnut cutter and fry. Use pure lard to fry and have your grease hot but not smoking.

  10. The Best Darn Ice Cream Cake

    You Need:
One box of brownie mix (Plus eggs, water, and oil)
2 Half gallons of ice cream of your choosing
1 Container of Cool Whip, thawed
1 bag of Toffee bits (Skors)

Cook the brownies in a 13x9 pan lined with foil, and remove it to cool when it's done (Allow brownies to cool completely). Press a third of the ice cream onto the bottom of a 13 x 9 pan. Press the full sheet of brownies on top of ice cream layer. Put another layer of ice cream on top of brownies and compress. Cover the ice cream layer with the bag of toffee bits. Top with the last third of the ice cream and compress (try using plastic wrap or a baggie so you don't get ice cream everywhere!). Spread cool whip on top of cake, cover, and toss back in the freezer until you're ready to enjoy!

P.S. Don't Let Kyle or Uncle Jim near it, it'll be gone in no time ;)

  12. Kate's Favorite Pot Roast That She Used To Think Was Hard To Make
    From Padre Kelly

    Ingredients:

2 lbs beef chuck roast cut into bite-sized pieces (venison is great too)
1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 small can low-sodium beef stock
3 cloves garlic, crushed or minced
    1 package onion soup mix
1 tinch oil to brown beef

    Directions:

    Preheat oven to 350.

Brown beef pieces over medium-high heat on top of stove (in stock pot or Dutch oven).
Add mushroom soup when beef is browned, keep heat on medium-high.
Add can of stock, stir it up.
Add onion soup mix (don't add any other spices to the pot.)
    Add garlic.
Stir it up until mushroom soup liquifies and onion soup mix and garlic are mixed in.
Turn heat to high, bring to boil & let boil for 2 or 3 minutes, then put lid on pot, turn off stove, & put covered pot in oven.
Bake at 350 for 90 minutes or so, until meat is fork tender and gravy is consistency you like. (If you want to thicken the gravy the easy way, remove the lid and let it cook another 30 minutes or so uncovered. If you want to do it the hard way, make a roux. The easy way always works well.)

    Serve with buttered egg noodles.
